About This Spot

Apple Jack's Bar feels like a well-kept secret nestled deep among the redwoods, where time slows down just enough to savor good company and simple pleasures. Tucked away on La Honda Road, this unpretentious spot invites visitors to step into a space that’s both familiar and a little wild—where the hum of friendly conversation blends seamlessly with the rustling of trees and the steady flow of a nearby creek.

The atmosphere here carries a laid-back rhythm, one that naturally encourages you to unwind and settle in. Whether you’re leaning against the weathered bar inside or sprawling out on the large deck out back, there’s a sense of belonging that comes from the mix of locals and wanderers—all drawn to the charm of this quiet hideaway. Light spills through the trees in the afternoon, warming the rustic wood surfaces, while weekend live music adds an honest soundtrack that feels rooted in the place and its stories.

At Apple Jack's, the drinks menu thoughtfully complements the relaxed environment without overshadowing it. With an inviting array of craft beers and crisp ciders on tap, the choice encourages conversation rather than rush. The smoky allure of pulled pork and pork belly barbecue reminds you that great food here is as much about sharing as it is about flavor, perfect for moments punctuated by easy laughter and clinking glasses.

Beyond the taps and plates, the bar’s ever-present warmth comes from the people—whether the bartenders who know their regulars by name or the day-trippers who stop in for a pause on their route. Games like pool and foosball add a sprinkle of playful rivalry, and the glowing Firestone heater offers a cozy spot to gather as daylight fades. On the patio, it’s not uncommon to find a few four-legged friends lounging contentedly, part of the unofficial community that breathes life into this tucked-away nook.

For those who stumble upon Apple Jack's, it’s a place that quietly but unmistakably invites you to take a moment—to savor a slow afternoon beneath the trees, to share stories with strangers who soon feel like friends, and to become part of a story that’s as local as the trails surrounding it.

We took a bus trip out here for an event we used to do in college. Great beer selection considering the location. Locals and bartenders were super fun. We managed to drink all of their blue moon. Goal of the trip was to drink them dry but with a group of 50 I think that would be pretty hard given the vast selection of taps.

One of the best dives in the Bay Area. Incredible location tucked away in the trees, good beer selection, and undeniable charm.

Very cool old time bar with a great big deck out back. Live music on the weekends, good prices and a friendly staff. Stopped in with the fellas while riding and it was a great place to rest and wet our whistle. Just driving by is a mistake. Place has some history to it as well.

Quick Beers and friendly people. No food. Pool table and fusbol + great Firestone heater. Check out the back porch next to babbling brook creek.

Waited here for our friends to join us for camping trip in Portola. Got a couple of beers, chatted with the local crowd, and had a merry time sitting in the redwoods shade. They had a live band on Sat at 4-20 pm which we couldn't wait for, and Sun at 2 pm.. But a guitarist played some tunes which made our day. They're pet friendly and our doggo loved hanging with us on the patio. Not pricey & rustic ambience with friendly staff.

Our local and historical bar in the heart of the redwoods. Great friends gather here. Beware of the locals, we love our town we love our bar.

Awesome place to stop for a quick beer or a few beers. My buddy and I stopped by on our way back from delivering a vehicle and this place didn't disappoint. We were expecting a place where we could get a quick beer fix then get back on the road, but what we got instead was a place where we would definitely come back to. One person gave this place a low rating because it was "very loud". Quick tip for that person, stay home and drink wine in front of the TV. If you hate fun, this isn't the place for you.
